Me and My Work

My inspiration, my creativity comes to me in quiet moments.

I usually start by having time in the pottery, cleaning it, tidying up and re-arranging it, checking out some art books, reading: like a meditation really.

Then, I follow my hands: sometimes I decide to go on the wheel and just ‘throw’. I prep some clay and throw quick, small to medium sized items: bowls, cups, vases, appear before me. As I create these on the wheel, ideas can come flooding in and I know they are but the first steps to some other form I will develop later, be it through a vision or just a feeling. Otherwise, they will remain bowls, cups, vases, etc. Sometimes I decide to sketch, give life to some notion that might well turn into an inspiration as I draw it.

The Finished Product

I work in stoneware, create most of my glazes, and fire my pieces in an electric kiln at 1260º C.

I create mostly useful art pieces, including garden pieces such as bird baths and functional ware such as plates and bowls for daily use.

My pieces are never the same- I always strive to satisfy that part of me that requires me to feel proud of my pieces and discover new perspectives. If I try to replicate pieces, I find them boring, as if they have lost all of their meaning- so I don’t.
